Marine 1st Lt.James R. Zimmerman died November 2, 2010 serving during Operation Enduring Freedom. Zimmerman, 25, of Aroostook, ME; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, NC; died Nov. 2 at Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, of wounds received while conducting combat operations.

Growing up, Zimmerman dreamed of joining the military. Immediately after high school, he went to basic training.  He then went to college and ROTC, then on to officer training.

He is survived by his wife, Lynel Winters; parents, Tom and Jane; sister, Megan; and brother, Christian.
